AN early morning operation by the Johor State Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) has resulted in the apprehension of a teenage girl and a man in his 20s at a Batu Pahat hotel.

The enforcement team arrived at the premises around 9 am yesterday, where they were forced to wait approximately eight minutes before the room door was finally opened by a shirtless man clad only in shorts.

According to a statement released by the department today, the man attempted to slam the door shut upon realising he was being inspected by religious authorities, though his efforts were ultimately unsuccessful.

During the subsequent search of the room, officers noticed a figure concealed beneath the bedsheets. While the man initially claimed the individual was merely a friend, the presence of female clothing hanging near the bed prompted further investigation.

“The enforcement officers conducted an inspection and saw a ‘figure’ covered with a blanket on the bed. When asked, the man stated that the person under the blanket was his friend,” the statement detailed.

“The officers found women’s clothing caught beside the bed, and when the blanket was slowly lifted, a teenage girl was seen completely unclothed.”

The department further noted, “The man is single and lives with his family in the district, while the girl also resides with her family. They had checked into the hotel under the man’s name since Tuesday and admitted that they frequently met while riding together on a motorcycle.”

Following the arrests, the parents of both parties were summoned to facilitate bail.

Officers reportedly advised the families to consider a prompt marriage for the couple to prevent further instances of moral misconduct.

The couple’s statements have been formally recorded, and they are expected to face charges under Section 27 of the Johor State Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment 1997. - December 18, 2025
