Teenager jailed, fined for causing injury

Kota Kinabalu: An 18-year-old teenager was jailed 16 months and fined RM2,000 or a month’s jail for voluntarily causing injury to a 16-year-old boy.

Muhammad Fendi Haslani who did not have any document, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie, to the charge against him on Wednesday.

Fendi caused hurt to the boy by using a sharp object at 10.30am on Aug 3 this year at the general market here.

The offence under Section 324 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 10 years, or with fine, or with whipping, on conviction.

The court ordered Fendi to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest on Sept 5 this year and after completing his jail sentence, he was ordered referred to the Immigration Department.

The court heard that during the incident three individuals approached the boy while he (boy) was buying food for breakfast at the said place and suddenly one of the individuals identified as Fendi had kicked the boy’s stomach as well as punched his chest.

After that, Fendi also took out the sharp weapon and stabbed the boy’s left hand.

Fendi and his friends then left the scene when the public came and helped the boy who later sent to a private clinic before sending to Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 for further treatment.

In another case, a 51-year-old man was fined RM20 or spend two days in prison for being under the influence of alcohol and causing annoyance to the public.

Malun Edin admitted to committing the offence at 11.55pm on Oct 7 this year at Kg Sembulan Baru area. He was charged under Section 510 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to 10 days, or fine of up to RM20, or both, on conviction.
