Ten road deaths were recorded in Terengganu during the 14-day Hari Raya Aidilfitri operation, with speeding on good roads cited as a key factor
KUALA TERENGGANU: Ten fatalities were recorded in road accidents during the 14-day Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2026 in Terengganu.
State Road Transport Department (JPJ) director Mohd Zamri Samion said seven of the deaths involved motorcyclists, while three involved car drivers and passengers.
He attributed the trend to drivers and riders increasing their speed on good roads, ignoring the risk of serious accidents.
“Analysis found most fatal accidents occurred in good weather and road conditions with smooth traffic,” he said at the state-level closing ceremony for the operation.
Mohd Zamri stated this showed the main factor was driver negligence, not road conditions.
During the same period, authorities issued 2,116 summonses to passengers and vehicle owners for various offences.
The summonses covered motorcycles, cars, commercial vehicles, and buses.
A total of 44 vehicles were also seized under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
These included 16 cars, 24 motorcycles, two lorries, and two other vehicles.
