A former chief executive officer of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) has arrived at the Magistrate’s Court here for remand proceedings related to investigations into a case linked to the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) Report on TH.
PUTRAJAYA: A former chief executive officer of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) has arrived at the Magistrate’s Court here for remand proceedings related to investigations into a case linked to the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) Report on TH.
The man, in his 60s, arrived at 9.35 am wearing an orange Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) remand shirt.
The RCI Report on TH, uploaded on the official Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) portal on July 29, among other things, recommended that a forensic audit be conducted to examine how past investment decisions were made, which resulted in TH suffering a severe impairment in the value of its assets.
The RCI report, which investigated issues concerning TH’s management and operations from 2014 to 2020, also listed problematic investments that require a forensic audit.
The RCI found evidence of suspicious transactions and concealment of information.
On July 30, MACC said it had established a special team to review and scrutinise the RCI report for any legal issues involving elements of corruption, misappropriation, document forgery, abuse of power or money laundering under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001, or related offences.
