Kota Kinabalu: A 38-year-old Thailand woman was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here, Friday, with soliciting for prostitution.

Monthicha Auychai pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to committing the offence at Inanam Sentral in Inanam township, at 8.13pm, on Oct 7.

The charge, under Section 372B of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to one year or a fine, or both, on conviction.

The prosecution, in applying for pre-trial case management (PTCM), informed the court that the accused had a document and a valid visa but proposed no bail to her. The court set Nov 13 for PTCM and ordered the accused to be further remanded.

Read more Meanwhile, three women were fined a total of RM3,700 by the Magistrate’s Court here for engaging in an illegal online gambling activity in public.

Dg Noraidah Jasmani, 25, Suhaila Sulung, 25, and Olivea Abdullah, 26, pleaded guilty separately before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to committing the offence each framed under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.

Noraidah was fined RM1,300 or one-month jail for the offence committed on Aug 5, at 10.49am, in a lot at Asia City, while Suhaila was ordered to pay a fine of RM1,200 or one month jail for the offence committed on Sept 25, at 11.15am, outside a restaurant, Bandar Sierra, Manggatal.

Olivea was also fined RM1,200 or one-month jail for committing the offence on Sept 22, at 5.30pm, at a premise, Taman Putatan Baru, Putatan.

Handphones were seized from Noraidah, Suhaila and Olivea during the raid including cash from them, the court heard.

The charge against them provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or a jail term of up to six months or both on conviction.
