The LLM Chairperson reportedly voiced his concerns that over how TuJu was presented during a briefing to the National Security Council (NSC), and whether LLM’s focus on highway safety, including assistance for motorists involved in accidents or breakdowns was distinguished from NSC’s security concerns.
He said that Tuju was conceived to provide access to live highway CCTV feeds, tolled highway traffic updates and enforcement camera locations, Rest and Service Area (R&R) facilities data, toll fare calculations and direct contact details for highway emergency assistance and breakdowns.
Dear Chairperson, what you revealed to the news portal in an interview the services that Tuju aimed to provide were already available to users of PLUS App, an app developed and owned by PLUS. where users of PLUS App gain an all-in-one digital driving companion that directly addresses each item:
- Access to live highway CCTV feeds: Users can visually verify traffic density up ahead through real-time traffic camera streaming directly in the app before or during their journey.
- Traffic updates & camera locations: The apps feature dedicated live incident feeds (such as the @PLUSTrafik Twitter system) and notify users of road hazards or camera zones.
- Rest and Service Area (R&R) data: Motorists can check nearby facilities, layout guides, operating EV charging points, and specific dining spots at various laybys and R&R areas along their route.
- Toll fare calculations: The application features a trip-planning toll calculator that handles precise fare estimations between your entry and exit plazas.
- Emergency assistance & breakdowns: A dedicated in-app SOS emergency button instantly connects drivers to highway patrols (like PLUSRonda) or hotlines for prompt vehicle breakdown assistance
Live Highway CCTV feeds?
PLUS Malaysia operates thousands of traffic cameras and advanced AI-driven monitoring systems across the North-South Expressway and related concessions (such as NKVE and ELITE), which can be viewed through official channels like the PLUS app whereas LLM as the statutory body overseeing Malaysia's overall highway network, manages its own network of traffic cameras and integrate feeds into public portals and supposedly into the TuJu Traffic App.
Meaning the Live Highway CCTV feeds that Tuju claimed it provides to its users are accessed and obtained from PLUS network of thousands of traffic cameras.
TuJu does not "own" its infrastructure.
It acts as an aggregator.
If a user travels exclusively on the North-South Expressway, the data they see on TuJu regarding CCTV feeds and traffic bottlenecks is inherently mirrored from PLUS's existing infrastructure.
The Chairperson said TuJu was developed particularly to help motorists obtain assistance during emergencies e.g if they are stranded on a highway, they can use TuJu to find the telephone numbers of people they can contact and the assistance available.
Dear Chairperson, for your information, PLUS Malaysia Berhad provides a comprehensive safety ecosystem for drivers stranded on their expressways through the Official PLUS App and the 24/7 PLUSRonda patrol team.
The PLUSRonda auxiliary police and patrol units also provide several free emergency services such as:
- Minor Roadside Repairs: Assistance with minor issues like flat tire changes or battery jump-starts.
- Free Class 1 Towing: If the vehicle cannot be fixed immediately, they will safely tow Class 1 passenger vehicles to the nearest toll plaza exit or Rest & Relaxation (R&R) area.
- Traffic Management & Security: Setting up cones and safety indicators around the vehicle to prevent secondary collisions
FYI, are you also aware that PLUS highway has just launched the JustGO ANPR ticketless toll system which is an open toll payment platform that allows motorists to pay tolls on the PLUS highway network using their vehicle's license plate?
The Chairperson said the project did not involve government funding as it is financed by investors in the project.
If it doesn’t involve government funding, why said additional costs for upgrading TuJu would depend on the business plan when questioned on the future financial commitments by LLM?
It is of no concern to LLM.
Dear Chairperson, the ordinary rakyat is fed up with politicians always justifying a competing concessionaire whose only difference is the entity owning it but replicating features already perfected by private concessionaires.
It constitutes an inefficient use of development resources and tax payers monies.
