The highly-anticipated Hermès Kite Festival finally made its debut here in Malaysia on 17 and 18 May 2025 — following editions in Indonesia and Dubai. Held at Sentul Pavilion in Kuala Lumpur, the Hermès Kite Festival was a playful showcase of Hermès silk scarves. First introduced in 1937, the Maison’s scarves, be it Plumets et Panaches, Robe Légère or sur Mon Nuage, truly were the stars of the joyful weekend.

We had the pleasure of checking out and previewing the Hermès Kite Festival on 16 May. And what a sight it was to behold — from the mesmerising kites soaring in the sky to the merry spirit throughout the venue. Even the cloud-adorned buggies that ferried guests from the carpark to the destination kept the smiles on. The entire Sentul Pavilion space was decked in Hermès signature prints and designs, including the interactive booths like Kite School.

Guests such as The Z List alumni Athina Kamarudin, Christian Didier Chin, Iman Alysha, Shalma Eliana, Tracie Sinidol, Vanessa Reynauld, William Seng and Yazmin Aziz as well as Claire Tan (LSA100 Class of 2024) were spotted trying their hands on the various activities at the occasion. At the launch event, celebrated Malaysian musician Alena Murang also entertained the audience with an enchanting set.

Attendees had the opportunity to learn making their very own kites from experts before bringing them outdoors to see them take flight with pride. Additionally, Hermès also installed beautifully-crafted zones for everyone to capture picture-perfect memories alongside a game area featuring tic-tac-toe and hopscotch sections. There was also an homage to Malaysia with a workshop dedicated to the wau — where guests either picked from ready-made charms or customised to their preferences.

There was merriment both in the air and on the ground as Hermès prepared a myriad of delicious treats. They comprised dishes such as ‘Aged Duck Pongteh Onigiri’, ‘Dark Chocolate & Orange Soufflé with Vanilla Ice Cream’, ‘Chilli Crab Orb’ and ‘Lodeh Dice’. Furthermore, there were also specially-curated beverages like ‘Assam Boi with Litchi & Gin’ and ‘Pina Colada with Coconut & Rum’. These drinks were also made available in non-alcoholic versions.

All in all, it was a delight to see the lively energy at Malaysia’s inaugural Hermès Kite Festival. It was cheerful and filled with enthusiasm — like the Maison’s silk scarves moving and gliding gracefully in the air.
