Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Unity in Diversity Community Partners (SUIDCP) will be screening a documentary film about Sabah’s diverse society entitled “Kita – Sabah Celebrating Diversity” at City Mall in March.

The date has yet to be set because they need to check the theatre’s availability.

The SUIDCP is a non-profit and non-partisan collaborative network of local faith and community-based organisations that work together to promote Unity in Diversity on project basis.

It is jointly administered by a voluntary Secretariat currently headed by its Chairman, Datuk Dr. K Mathavan of Malaysia Hindu Sangam Sabah Council.

“This documentary film is produced entirely by local crews in collaboration with SUIDCP and funded by the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas),” said SUIDCP in a statement, here, Wednesday.

“Kita projects the realities, values and aspirations of our people in embracing, celebrating and preserving cultural diversity in Sabah.

“The one hour and 45 minutes documentary consists of three separate but yet interrelated sections, following the real life stories of 10 ordinary Sabahans and through their lenses we experience the ‘strength’, ‘beauty’ and ‘deliciousness’ of our diverse society.

“The entire production took nearly two years to complete, including 10 months of shooting throughout 15 locations in Sabah and Kuala Lumpur,” read the statement.

Meanwhile, the SUIDCP is a non-political collaborative network of local faith and community-based organisations that does not involve in party politics.

It works with any like-minded organisations and/or individuals that subscribe to its objectives which among others are to preserve, promote and celebrate Sabah’s unity and rich religious and cultural diversity.

It also aims to facilitate closer collaboration among different religious and cultural communities in helping each other to address their own or common social challenges.

“SUIDCP would like to wish all our Chinese brothers and sisters Gong Xi Fatt Chai. In this celebration that is rooted in the principles of peace, longevity and prosperity, we are reminded of how we are blessed with unity in this journey of building a nation that is inclusive and welcoming to all.

“We hope the values of moderation, tolerance and acceptance of diversity will continue to be upheld by all of us.

“We pray for stability and a deeper level of unity among our leaders to steer Sabah to reach its full potential towards economic progress for the benefit and well-being of all Sabahans,” the statement read.
