The Sultan of Perak is scheduled to take over as the 18th Agong from January 2029 to January 2034, which will officially complete the second rotation cycle.
Following Perak, the rotation will reset to the top of the list for the third cycle, making the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan the next in line to take office in January 2034.
Negeri Sembilan has initiated both previous cycles since the country’s independence with Tuanku Abdul Rahman of Negeri Sembilan elected as the very first Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaya in 1957 (First Cycle) and Tuanku Ja'afar of Negeri Sembilan kicked off the second cycle as the 10th Yang di-Pertuan Agong in 1994.
As reported by The Star and Malaysiakini, the Yang di Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan has frequently and publicly described corruption as the primary enemy of justice, public trust, and the nation's future.
Speaking at his 78th birthday investiture ceremony in Jan 2026, he stated he was disheartened that some citizens still rally behind those found guilty of serious graft offences as if their actions were acceptable or forgivable.
According to the New Straits Times, he emphasized that tolerating or supporting corrupt offenders shows a failure to grasp the damage done to society's moral foundations, urging people to reflect on their faith and principles.
If Tuanku Muhriz have ruffled a couple of feathers with his vociferous expressions on such issues, his ascension to become the YDP Agong in Jan 2034 would send not only fears down the spine of a lot of corrupt politicians, it could probably send them into temporary refuge to their holiday homes that were purchased through their corrupted ways, overseas.
Many ordinary Malaysians are just waiting for the year 2034 to arrive.
