Barangay Ginebra superstar Scottie Thompson has been dropped from the Gilas Pilipinas final 12 roster due to a hamstring injury.
Converge rookie guard Juam Gomez De Liaño is set to take the spot of the do-it-all guard, said Gilas Pilipinas coach Tim Cone.
"Yes, bad hamstring injury. JGDL will replace him." Cone told the Manila Times on Friday.
Ginebra, also coached by Cone, bagged the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup crown last Wednesday after beating TNT 4-3 in the Finals series.
Thompson, a long-time Ginebra superstar, averaged 10.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists in the epic seven-game series en route to being named Ramon Fernandez Finals Most Valuable Player.
The 32-year-old Thompson recorder a near triple-double output of 18 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists in the title-clinching Game 7, where Ginebra beat TNT, 88-76.
Gilas Pilipinas is gearing up for the final window of the FIBA World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers set this July.
