Three held for allegedly confining, causing hurt to man

TAWAU: Three family members, including the girlfriend of a male victim allegedly confined and abused by the family, were arrested by police in Kampung Merotai Besar on Thursday

Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the suspects, aged between 25 and 64, were apprehended by a team from Bombalai police station at 10.30pm while attempting to flee.

AdvertisementHe said an iron, a mobile phone and a sheathed samurai sword believed to have been used during the incident were seized.

The 27-year-old victim reportedly sustained injuries to his head and burns on his left arm.

Read more Jasmin said the incident allegedly began last Tuesday when the victim and his family were on their way home, and he received a WhatsApp message from his girlfriend claiming she was pregnant.

The victim received another message from the suspect (his girlfriend) the following morning at 7am, asking him to come to her house.

“The situation escalated when he was reportedly beaten with a belt buckle, punched in the head by the girlfriend’s brother and threatened with a samurai sword,” he said.

He said the victim managed to escape by breaking the room’s window and running to the main road to seek help from passers-by.

Jasmin said the police are now conducting an investigation to verify the claims.

He advised the public not to speculate as the investigation is progressing.

The case is being investigated under Sections 324 and 506 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation.
