
LAHAD DATU: Three people were killed and three others injured when the Proton Saga they were travelling in skidded and overturned at Batu 18, Jalan Sandau, along Jalan Lahad Datu-Sandakan, Thursday.
It was learnt that two women aged 36 and 38 as well as a 41-year-old man, all Indonesian, died at the scene. District Fire and Rescue Station Chief Sumsoa Rashid said they received a distress call following the incident at 3.05pm.
A team of eight Fire and Rescue personnel rushed to the scene, located about 31km away, in a FRT machinery and EMRS vehicle.
Upon arrival, the team reported that a Proton Saga had skidded and overturned. Six victims comprising four women and two men were trapped inside the vehicle.
“The team extricated the victims using special tools. Two women and a man were pronounced dead by Health Ministry personnel at the scene and handed over to the police for further action.
“Three other victims who sustained serious injuries were taken to the hospital for further treatment,” he said. The operation ended at 5.27pm after the team made sure there was no other danger at the scene.
