THUNDERSTORMS are expected to affect several states across Malaysia later today, with weather conditions set to deteriorate in parts of both Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia).

The department said the adverse weather is forecast to impact areas in Perak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Negeri Sembilan, as well as inland regions of Kedah and Pahang during the afternoon.

Sabah is expected to experience rain in parts of the Interior, West Coast and Sandakan regions later in the day, while Sarawak may see thunderstorms affecting Kuching, Serian, Samarahan and Sri Aman.

Conditions are expected to improve across most parts of Peninsular Malaysia by nightfall, with no significant rainfall forecast except in inland areas of Selangor.

However, wet weather is likely to persist in parts of East Malaysia into the evening, with rain expected in Sabah’s Interior and Tawau regions, as well as in Serian and Kapit in Sarawak. - March 20, 2026
