Tickets for The Odyssey in South Korea sold for five times face value

  • Tickets for Christopher Nolan’s film The Odyssey are being resold in South Korea for up to five times their face value due to huge demand for IMAX screenings.
  • Original ticket prices ranging from £9 to £11.60 have been listed on secondary platforms for over £53, with three consecutive seats offered for nearly £158.
  • The surge in demand is centred on Seoul’s CGV Yongsan venue, the only screen in South Korea capable of showing the film in its full 1.43:1 aspect ratio.
  • The Korean Film Council has begun collecting reports on suspected ticket scalping and the use of automated software to buy bulk seats across premium formats.
  • South Korea is introducing tougher anti-scalping legislation on 28 August, but the new rules will only cover sports and concert tickets, excluding cinema admissions.
