LOOKING to defend their home lair, the Quadricentennial Pavilion for the third and final time this UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament, the UST Golden Tigresses face the UE Lady Warriors with the added intent of boosting their semifinal chances on Easter Sunday.
University of Santo Tomas (UST) and University of the East (UE) clash at 11 a.m., following the clash of the same schools in the men’s side at 9 a.m.
The Tigresses won twice in as many games in their home court, defeating the Lady Warriors first, 25-11, 25-14, 25-14, on Feb. 28.
UST then topped neighbors FEU Lady Tamaraws, 25-17, 25-17, 18-25, 25-17, on March 29 to win four of its last five games entering the Holy Week break.
As the league resumes play this Easter, the 6-4 and fifth-running Tigresses look to keep growling and pump more life into their Final Four bid at the expense of the already-eliminated Warriors.
UE remains winless at 0-10 and is suffering a 24-game skid dating back to a winless campaign last season.
The Ateneo Blue Eagles are also eliminated from Final Four contention with a 1-9 slate this season, which is being led by the still undefeated De La Salle Lady Spikers at 10-0.
La Salle clinched the first Final Four berth on March 29 with a 25-15, 25-18, 25-20 win over the sixth-running and 4-6 UP Fighting Maroons.
Graduating team captain and two-time Best Libero Detdet Pepito said that the Tigresses playing like they are no pushovers is a key moving forward.
A win by UST will put the Shaq Delos Santos-mentored team temporarily in third place, but a loss would keep the España-based squad in fifth place.
In the afternoon session, the Adamson Lady Falcons and the defending champs NU Lady Bulldogs also aim to improve their semifinal chances at each other’s expense.
Adamson and NU collide at 5 p.m., serving as the final game of the day, following the men’s match between the same schools at 3 p.m.
