In the age of social media politics, Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, the Kedah Menteri Besar, seems to have discovered a novel way to connect with the masses – through the harmonious echoes of his vocal cords on TikTok.
A move hailed by some as a savvy outreach strategy, while others see it as nothing more than a political sideshow.
Sanusi defends his dawn serenades, claiming that using every available space, especially social media, is fair game in the pursuit of influence.
In his melodious defence, he insists that singing 'live' on TikTok is a trivial matter compared to weightier issues like the Ashabul Kahfi debacle linked to the Prime Minister
Conveniently, he accuses political adversaries of orchestrating a cacophony of trivialities to drown out significant concerns.
The PN elections director-general accuses his detractors of selectively editing videos, adding spicy captions to divert attention from more critical matters.
Yet, one wonders if the serenading Chief Minister is genuinely an innocent victim of political manoeuvring or a shrewd tactician using the rhythms of TikTok to mask the discord, in his own political symphony.
Sanusi suggests that the uproar stems from envy – parties and leaders irked by his success in captivating the vast audience that TikTok commands.
A million followers later, he smirks at his critics, asserting that entering the social media 'world' guarantees results. It's a populist anthem that conveniently sidesteps questions about the substance of his leadership.
As the TikTok controversy unfolds, Sanusi plays the family card, emphasizing his wife and son's cameo appearances during his lyrical exploits. He dismisses critics with a nonchalant melody, insisting that men singing alone is not illegal.
The discordant note here is whether the Chief Minister's foray into TikTok is an earnest effort to engage with the public or merely a political karaoke session masking ulterior motives.
In the realm of politics, image matters, and Sanusi, the TikTok crooner, appears to understand this well. The art of politics, it seems, has transcended speeches and rallies to embrace a more modern and melodious approach. Yet, one can't help but ponder if this is a genuine attempt at connection or a calculated ploy to garner support through catchy tunes.
In the grand symphony of politics, where each note matters, Sanusi's TikTok escapade raises questions about the evolving nature of political communication.
Is it a genuine attempt to bridge the gap between leaders and the youth, or is it a cunning ploy to distract from more pressing matters?
Only time—and perhaps a few more TikTok performances—will tell whether Sanusi succeeds in his pursuit.
