FOR The Manila Times (TMT) team, golf is not just a game or sport; it is a moment of celebrating small wins and budding friendships. That is why TMT holds its annual Golf Cup, which is also a great start for the year 2026.

Seventy-five participating players had the chance to win big while making fruitful connections.

“We are thrilled to host this eighth golf tournament and even more thrilled to see so may friends, partners, advertisers, and community leaders gathered in one place on the beautiful Intramuros Golf Club,” said Anna Marie Ang-Thompson, TMT CEO. “As a newspaper company, we spend our days telling stories of this community — the wins, challenges, and moments that bring people together. Today is one of those moments.”

Some players shared what they thought about the tournament.

Franklin Ysao thanked TMT for inviting him to play. “It was great,” he said. “I met new friends and I won a raffle prize. I was hoping to win the championship; hopefully I’ll get it next time.”

“I always have fun playing golf at [TMT’s tournaments], along with the opportunity to meet new friends,” Roberto Borromeo said. He is looking forward to more giveaways related to golf and raffle prizes in the future tournaments hosted by TMT. For Borromeo, having patience and focus, as well as enjoying the game are keys to winning in golf.

Peter Danao complemented the seamless and fun experience he has during the tournament. “Registration was a breeze, and the breakfast and lunch was great.” In future tournaments, he is looking forward to entertaining performances alongside the awarding, such as a duo or a band. For Danao, the opportunity to be with friends and to just move around and sweat it out is worth more than winning.

Erasto Caguinguin echoed the sentiment of having a wonderful time and memorable experience while playing in the tournament.

“One of my personal aspirations in golf is to achieve a handicap of 8, which continues to motivate me to improve my game. I also greatly enjoyed the overall event — the food was very satisfactory, and the program was well-organized and punctual, which made the tournament even more enjoyable,” he said. ASide from playing with friends, he is looking forward to the fellowship and camaraderie with both familiar and new players. Meeting new golf enthusiasts and building connections within the golfing community is something he truly values.

“For me, winning in golf is always unpredictable, especially since I still consider myself a newbie. What matters most is enjoying the game, staying disciplined, and continuously improving. I was already very happy with my score of 93 after five years of playing golf, so personal progress and consistency are more important to me than just winning,” he added.

PlayTime Entertainment Director of Public Relations Krizia Cortez also graced the event, sharing how the company’s support for the tournament reflects the same commitment they have for cultivating Filipino entertainment.

“Golf is a game of integrity. You call your own penalties, you play the ball where it lies. These are the same principles that define enduring institutions in media and in entertainment,” Cortez said.

She added: “But beyond the sport, gatherings like this create something invaluable. The conversations where partnerships are born, the shared experiences that turn business contracts into genuine relationships; this is where commerce and community meet. To [TMT,] thank you for your years of service to our nation and for creating platforms where excellence is celebrated and community is built. On behalf of PLayTime Entertainment, it’s been our privilege to suppor today’s tournament. May we continue building institutions worthy of this nation’s trust and partnerships worthy of the legacy we hope to leave.”

Previously, TMT held its 7th Golf Cup at Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club last Dec. 6. Rianne Malixi, who is also the winner of the 2024 US Women’s Amateur and 2024 US Girls’ Junior Championship, was awarded with the lowest net.
