KUALA LUMPUR – The body of an unidentified person was discovered inside the wheel well of an aircraft at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 (KLIA2) early Thursday (Aug 27).

The body, whose gender has not been established, was found at about 6.55am in the wheel well of a flight from Tokyo, Japan, which arrived at KLIA2 at around 6.30am.

The discovery was made by engineering personnel who were carrying out checks involving the aircraft’s wheel well.

It is believed the personnel detected a suspicious foul odour coming from the compartment before opening it, leading to the discovery of the body.

The matter was subsequently reported to the KLIA2 police station operations room, following which police forensic personnel were sent to the scene to conduct investigations.

Preliminary investigations found that the victim was believed to be in their 20s and may have been dead for more than 72 hours.

The victim was found wearing jeans and a white shirt, but no identification documents were discovered on the body.

Police are continuing investigations to establish the identity of the victim and determine the cause of death. - August 27, 2026
