Paramount confirms Top Gun 3 is in the works with Tom Cruise reprising his role as Maverick, announced at the CinemaCon event in Las Vegas.
LAS VEGAS: Paramount Pictures has officially confirmed the development of “Top Gun 3” with Tom Cruise set to return.
The announcement was made at the studio’s showcase during the annual CinemaCon summit for theater owners and press.
Studio executive Josh Greenstein stated the project is “officially in development with a script well underway.”
He confirmed Cruise will reunite with producer Jerry Bruckheimer on the sequel.
The 2022 sequel “Top Gun: Maverick” earned a massive USD 1.5 billion worldwide.
It was widely credited with helping to revive cinema attendance after the Covid-19 pandemic.
Cruise did not attend the event in person but narrated its opening film.
In a closing clip, he said, “The future looks great from here.”
Paramount also used the event to outline its theatrical release strategy.
Skydance chief David Ellison pledged a 45-day exclusive window for films in cinemas before streaming.
“Once we combine with Warner Brothers, we’re going to make a minimum of 30 films annually,” Ellison told attendees.
He concluded his remarks by declaring, “Long live the movies.”
This follows Paramount’s massive USD 111 billion bid to take over Warner Bros.
The proposed merger has sparked concerns about industry-wide cuts and consolidation.
Paramount also previewed other upcoming films, including a “Call of Duty” adaptation.
The video game movie is scheduled for release in June 2028.
Footage was shown for “Heart of the Beast,” a thriller starring Brad Pitt.
Johnny Depp also appeared to preview his role in “Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol.”
The CinemaCon event continues with a presentation from Disney.
