
Kota Kinabalu: A 20-year-old Vietnamese woman was jailed six months by the Magistrate’s Court, here, Thursday for stabbing another Vietnamese woman.
Thi Thanh Thuy Nguyen pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to voluntarily causing hurt using a dangerous weapon.
The incident occurred on Oct 4 at around 6.30am in the lobby of Alam Damai Condominium, Luyang.
The offence, under Section 324 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine, whipping, or any combination thereof.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Akash Singh informed the court that the victim, Thi Ngoc Anh Kuong, suffered stab wounds to her back and calves and received treatment at a local hospital.
Nguyen, tearful, apologised and pleaded for leniency.
The prosecutor urged a deterrent sentence due to the seriousness of the offence and the use of a dangerous weapon.
The sentence will run from the date of her arrest.
