Trespassing: Jobless man gets 12 months’ jail

Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed man was sentenced to 12 months’ jail on Tuesday for trespassing into a house, here, last month.

Ahadi Salleh, 25, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence at a house belonging to one Sim Sie Ngan at Taman Sheraton off Jalan Damai here at 4.50pm on June 26.

The charge, under Section 448 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up three years or fine of up to RM5,000, or both, on conviction.

Earlier, the court was informed by the prosecution that Ahadi confessed to sneaking into the house through the side door by cutting the padlock of the grille.

Ahadi hid in the ceiling of the house when police arrived but was later arrested.

Also seized from him was a bag containing housebreaking tools, said the prosecution.

In another case, two people were penalised for having gambling paraphernalia.

Evlyn Kogi, who appeared before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles, was fined RM1,000 or two months’ jail for having three illegal lottery tickets at 3.30pm on April 6, this year at Donggongon town.

Clethra Cyrinus, who appeared before Stephanie was fined RM800 or one-week jail for having four illegal lottery slips at 1.40pm on Jan 3, this year at Kepayan.

They were each charged under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming House Act carries a jail term of up to six months, or fine of up to RM3,000, or both, on conviction.

Earlier, the court heard from the prosecution that Evlyn and Clethra were arrested by police, who found a handphone and mobile printer from each of them as well as RM42 cash and RM92 cash from Evlyn and Clethra, respectively.
