Kota Kinabalu: A 26-year-old unemployed was sentenced to seven months in jail on a charge of trespassing, Thursday, at the Magistrate’s Court.

Minson Ombolog pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles for breaking into the house at Teck Guan Villa, Lido, belonging to one Chan May Ying, also known as Chan Moy at 5.30am, on Dec 2, 2023.

The charge, under Section 448 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to three years or a fine of up to RM5,000, or both, on conviction.

Prosecuting Officer Inspector Kelvan Elson Maik told the court that Minson was reported breaking into the house by a complainant who is Chan’s neighbour.

Duty Counsel Carmen Khoo, representing Minson, requested for a lenient sentence on the grounds that Minson is a first-time offender and is remorseful.

Carmen explained that Minson has elderly parents who require medical attention.

Kelvan applied for an adequate sentence.

The court ordered Minson to serve his sentence from the date of arrest.
