Kuala Lumpur: Tuaran Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau (pic) has proposed that every delayed development project categorised as "sick" be given a recovery plan with an actionable decision within 90 days to prevent further disruption to the people.
Debating Budget 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday, he said the success of the federal budget should not be measured merely by the allocations announced, but by completed, functional projects delivered to the public.
The Upko honorary president sought clarification on how many of the 33 sick projects reported nationwide are located in Sabah, alongside full disclosures of allocation warrants and actual expenditures for projects overseen by the state and federal Public Works Departments (PWD).
To tackle recurring bottlenecks, he urged authorities to resolve all land acquisition, design, statutory approval, and utility matters before work commences, while making physical progress, expenditures, and extension of time (EOT) records accessible to the public.
He also called for an end to the cycle of announced projects languishing into sick ventures, advocating independent reviews and contract terminations for second EOTs caused by contractor defaults, alongside empowering Sabah PWD as the technical agency for federal projects valued at RM50 million and below.
