Johor police arrest two men after a generator sparks a blaze at a fireworks stall, causing RM50,000 in damage and destroying a food truck.

JOHOR BAHRU: Police have arrested two men in connection with a fire that destroyed a fireworks stall and a food truck in Majidee here.

Johor Deputy Police Chief DCP Hoo Chuan Huat said initial investigations found the blaze was caused by a generator used at the stall on March 23.

The fire spread to the suspect’s stock of fireworks, causing them to explode before engulfing a nearby parked food truck.

“The estimated loss from the incident is approximately RM50,000. However, police confirm that no fatalities or injuries were reported,” Hoo said at a press conference today.

Acting on information, police arrested one suspect in Kulai at 11.15 am on March 25.

A second suspect was arrested in Kampung Melayu Majidee at 12.30 pm the same day.

Checks revealed one suspect holds a valid licence to sell, possess and purchase fireworks.

Both men will be brought before the Johor Bahru Magistrate’s Court tomorrow for a remand application to assist in investigations.

Hoo also said 66 police reports have been lodged since the start of Ramadan involving various offences related to fireworks.

Those with information on criminal activities are urged to contact the nearest police station or the Johor Police hotline.
