Police arrest two women, the owner and keeper of a fireworks stall, after a fire at Wakaf Che Yeh caused by an electrical short circuit.

KOTA BHARU: Police have arrested two women to assist in the investigation of a firecracker and fireworks stall fire at Wakaf Che Yeh.

The 44-year-old owner and a 38-year-old keeper were arrested at 8.30 pm yesterday.

They are being investigated under Section 285 of the Penal Code.

Kota Bharu district police chief ACP Mohd Azmir Damiri said the stall was operated by the eatery owner, who held a valid permit.

“The fire brigade forensic team’s examination confirmed that the fire was caused by a short circuit in the electrical wire connection from the premises to the stall’s decorative lights and further investigations are still ongoing,” he said in a statement.

The fire occurred at about 10.13 am yesterday in front of an eatery at Batu 3, Wakaf Che Yeh, Jalan Kuala Krai.

Police received an emergency call via the MERS 999 line informing them of the incident.
