KOTA BHARU – Kelantan police have opened two investigation papers into a viral issue involving a social media activist and the Rohingya community in the state, with two local men arrested to assist investigations.
Kelantan Police Chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the investigations were being conducted under Sections 341 and 268 of the Penal Code, as well as Section 395 of the same code.
He said police viewed seriously any issue that could affect public order and community harmony.
In a related development, Mohd Yusoff said a total of 199 criminal cases involving Rohingya refugees were recorded nationwide between 2022 and August 2026.
He said the figure was based on a statement by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
“At the same time, the implementation of the Refugee Registration Document (DPP) by the Home Ministry aims to systematically record refugees’ identities and biometric data.
“The measure is also intended to assist the authorities in conducting security screenings and verifying the identities of registered individuals,” he said in a statement on Sunday.
Mohd Yusoff stressed that police would continue their investigations professionally and take appropriate action in accordance with the law.
He also urged the public not to speculate or circulate unverified information, but to allow the authorities to conduct their investigations.
“The police remains committed to maintaining public order, upholding the law and ensuring the safety of the community,” he said.
