Two friends charged with committing sexual offences against girl

Kota Kinabalu: Two men were charged in the Sessions Court here with committing sexual offences against an underage girl in Beaufort.

Security guard Mohamad Shahriyan, 18, and unemployed Muhamad Afiq Alhaziq, 19, who appeared before Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim pleaded not guilty.

Mohamad was accused of raping the 14-year-old girl between 12.30am and 2am on Jan 11 in a hut by the beach.

The charge is framed under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, on conviction.

The offence, under Section 14 (b) of the Sexual Offences against Children Act 2017, carries a jail term of up to 20 years, and whipping on conviction.

The court set Feb 21 for the next mention date and released the accused on a bail of RM5,000 in two sureties each.

The accused, who were friends, were also ordered to report to the nearest police station once a month.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Azizi Hamil prosecuted.

Mohamad was represented by counsel Datuk Nelson Angang while Afiq was not represented.
