Two held in Membakut for alleged CCTV tampering

MEMBAKUT: Police detained two men over an alleged crippling of a CCTV camera at a house in Kampung Lumantak, here.

District Police Chief Supt Champin Piuh confirmed the incident on Wednesday.

Preliminary investigations found that the two suspects allegedly caused the camera to blur and disrupt its sensors.

He said the incident was believed to have stemmed from a dispute over privacy and a family disagreement involving inherited property.

The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code.

Champin urged the public to stop taking matters into their own hands when resolving disputes.

“Instead, they should use the proper legal channels to prevent minor disagreements from escalating into criminal acts,” he said.

Meanwhile, police also detained a man by the roadside near the Public Works Department housing area in Beaufort, Champin said.

“An inspection found 5.18 grammes of a substance suspected to be syabu in the suspect’s waist bag,” he said.

The suspect was taken to the Beaufort District Police Headquarters Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (BSJND) office for further action. The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Champin said police would continue to take firm and uncompromising action against drug possession and trafficking to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
