Two held in separate Beaufort drug cases

BEAUFORT: District Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (BSJKD) personnel arrested two men in separate cases involving suspected syabu possession and drug abuse.

Beaufort District Police Chief Supt Champin Piuh said the first suspect was arrested by the roadside in Kampung Lupak here at about 7pm.

He said a search found a substance believed to be syabu weighing 5.74 grammes in the suspect’s right hand.

“The suspect was subsequently taken to the police station for further action, and the case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said on Tuesday.

In a separate case, a 26-year-old man was arrested by Beaufort police and taken to the police station for a urine screening.

The test returned positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.

The suspect was subsequently detained at the Beaufort Police Station lock-up for further action.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Champin said.

He said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) would continue taking firm action against drug abuse and related activities to curb the drug threat in the community.

“Police will continue to take stern action against drug trafficking and possession activities to ensure the safety and well-being of the community are protected,” he said.
