Two women charged for fighting

Kota Kinabalu: Two women were charged in the court, Thursday, for fighting in public. Norain Mohammad Ali, 20, and Nur Azlina Mokhtar, who were brought before Court Registrar Rita Kunsoi, were accused of committing the offence at 6.30pm on Oct 4 at Kampung Nambazan, Penampang.

However, no plea was recorded from them. The charge stated that the women were engaged in a violent brawl, involving wrestling and punching.

Norain and Nur Azlina were charged under Section 160 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to six months or a fine of up to RM1,000 or both, on conviction.

Inspector Kelvan Elson Maik applied for a new mention date and proposed bail at RM3,000 with two sureties for Norain.

Rita released Norain on a bail of RM1,500 deposit with one surety. However, no bail was offered to Nur Azlina as she is undocumented. Rita fixed Oct 16 for mention.

In another case, an unemployed man, Adzrol Blar, 25, is facing three counts for theft, assault and taking drugs.

Adzrol is accused of stealing a keychain worth RM2.50 while the second count for assaulting Lee Wee Ming at 1.50pm on Oct 4 at 100% Mart, Sinsuran.

The first count was framed under Section 380 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and liability of a fine, on conviction, while the second count under Section 323 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to one year or fine of up to RM2,000 or both, on conviction.

Adzrol was also charged with taking drugs under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act provide for a fine or up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail, on conviction.

No plea was taken from Adzrol for the three counts.

The prosecution in applying for a mention date for the first and second counts, proposed bail at RM4,000 with two sureties for each charge.

The court scheduled his appearance before a Magistrate on Oct 16 and offered bail at RM2,000 deposited with two sureties for each charge.

For his drug case, the court set Nov 21 for his appearance before a Magistrate and offered bail at RM1,500.
