UAAP: Tigers claw Blue Eagles to cap first round on high note

MANILA, Philippines — University of Santo Tomas (UST) made sure not to lose on home court as it pulled a fiery fourth-quarter rally to topple Ateneo de Manila University, 80-68, in the UAAP Season 89 men’s basketball tournament on Saturday at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.

UST finished the first round of the tournament with a 4-3 win-loss record, while Ateneo fell to 3-4 in the standings.

Collins Awoke made a double-double performance of 18 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Growling Tigers, while Mark Llemit and Amiel Acido both chipped in 15 markers.

Koji Buenaflor added 11 points for UST’s victory.

Ateneo, on the other hand, relied on Kevin Alas’ 18-point output, who also added three rebounds and four assists.
