THE national women's badminton squad faces a tough task when they take on defending champions China in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Uber Cup at the Horsens Forum, Denmark, today.

Malaysia advanced to the quarter-finals as runners-up in Group B, while China, the most successful team in the Uber Cup with 16 titles, was crowned champions of Group A.

Only the top two teams from each group qualify for the quarter-finals.

Malaysia, which will be playing in the quarter-finals for the first time in 16 years, has qualified three times before, in the 2004, 2008 and 2010 editions.

The national squad previously opened Group B by defeating Turkiye 3-2, followed by a 5-0 thrashing of South Africa and a 1-4 defeat to six-time champions Japan.

Meanwhile, the knockout stage draw saw six-time Group B champions Japan face Group D runners-up Thailand.

Three-time champions Indonesia, who won Group C, will face hosts Denmark, who finished runners-up in Group A.

Two-time champions South Korea, who topped Group D, will face Taiwan, who qualified for the quarter-finals after finishing runners-up in Group C. The finals of the 2026 Uber Cup, which began on April 24, will end on May 3. – April 30, 2026
