Belal Muhammad has spent close to a decade competing at the highest level in the UFC. As a former welterweight champion, his experience carries significant authority within the sport.
That reputation has extended beyond fighting, with his analysis gaining attention. His breakdown of the matchup between Jack Della Maddalena and Carlos Prates added further weight to that growing profile.
Ahead of the UFC Perth headliner, Muhammad outlined a detailed prediction. What followed during the fight suggested he could thrive as a pundit or coach in the future.
Belal Muhammad drops clinical pre-fight analysis of Jack Della Maddalena vs Carlos Prates

In his preview, Muhammad described how JDM’ should approach the contest. He stressed the need to close distance and pressure Prates consistently.
“Keys to victory: I think, for Jack Della, you gotta get in his face. I think you gotta get into Prates’ face. You gotta get Prates going backwards on his back foot, and even initiating some grappling attempts,” the former champ began by saying.
He later explained in the video why Prates could prevail. Muhammad highlighted a strategy focused on targeting with kicks and exploiting defensive gaps.
The 37-year-old stated: “For Prates, we saw in the Jack’s last fight, right? Islam was landing some very good kicks, low kicks. You gotta attack the legs, attack the arms, attack the head. I think switching up those kicks, mixing it up. He has good boxing defense, but he doesn’t have really good kick defense.
“For Prates, putting those kicks in, and realizing now that Prates, you don’t wanna take one, especially a clean one, because he has that power to put anybody out. He has that death touch precision”
He concluded with a clear prediction favouring the Brazilian contender. “So my pick: I think he’s gonna win.”
The fight ultimately unfolded in line with that assessment, with Prates using a low kick strategy effectively, and even Maddalena trying to do what he predicted.
