
Kota Kinabalu: Impressing judges as well as followers with her knowledge and experience on marine ecosystem, Hayley Louise Adlam from United Kingdom (UK) was crowned the 2023 Miss Scuba International, last, Saturday.
The 33-year-old beat 22 other finalists to win the crown. The first runner-up was Alysha Brooke Costa, 29, from the United States of America, followed by third place winner, South Korea’s Park Hayan, 28.
Rianne Laan, 31, from the Netherlands and Catherine Fan, 25, from China secured the top five position in which they were given the title of “Ocean Ambassador”.
Adlam said she has always been passionate of the marine ecosystem which led her to participate in various activities related to it including travelling to Antarctica.
She would be resuming a telecommunication project which is expected to commence soon to connect some three billion people while at the same time juggling through another project to rewild marine ecosystems in coastal zones of the UK.
“I want to get involved with some rewilding project in the UK which is expected to begin in January next year. This involves utilising a particular area in which fishing will not be allowed and using that place to spawn fish and hopefully increase the biodiversity of those areas so then the fish would overspill into a wider marine ecosystem.
“At the same time, I will resume work in December in a telecommunication project that expects to connect some 33 countries around the world involving over three continents and benefiting some three billion people.
Also present were Tourism, Culture and Environment Assistant Minister cum Kiulu Assemblyman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai as well as Miss International Founder cum President Rober Lo, among others.
