UMNO records nearly 14,000 new online membership applications since platform launch

UMNO has recorded 13,954 new membership applications through its online registration system since it was launched on 22 April, in what party leaders describe as a strong response to efforts to modernise and simplify entry into the organisation.

UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the figures reflect encouraging momentum, particularly among younger Malaysians, as the party seeks to broaden its grassroots base through digital engagement.

“Based on statistics as of 8am this morning, the Youth wing recorded the highest number with 8,233 members, followed by Puteri (1,290) and Wanita (1,240),” he said.

He added that the online system has also generated visible on-the-ground interest, with a steady daily increase in applications since its introduction.

“As early as 8.30am, we could see them already queuing in large numbers. This upward trend shows a positive development that is occurring almost every day,” he said.

Asyraf was speaking during his opening remarks at the UMNO 80th anniversary convention at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, where he also highlighted regional trends in membership uptake.

He said Johor recorded the highest number of new registrations, followed by Pahang and Perak, underscoring what he described as widespread interest across key states.

The party leadership has framed the online registration initiative as part of broader efforts to strengthen UMNO’s organisational reach and relevance, particularly among younger voters and first-time political participants.

The digital platform, launched on 22 April, is intended to streamline the application process and remove traditional barriers to entry, while supporting the party’s wider restructuring and rejuvenation agenda. - May 2, 2026
