KOTA KINABALU: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), in collaboration with the Higher Education Leadership Academy (AKEPT), hosted the International Empowering Leadership Conference 2.0 here recently.

The two-day event gathered academics, industry leaders, government representatives and community figures to discuss the role of leadership in the age of artificial intelligence, with participation from technology giants such as Huawei, Toyota, Aerodyne, Google Cloud and Indah Water Konsortium.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir said Malaysia remained committed to building an AI ecosystem grounded in ethics, sustainability and inclusivity.

He also announced the rollout of Scopus AI across all 20 public universities, making Malaysia the first country in the Asia-Pacific region to adopt the research technology nationwide.

UMS Registrar Luqman Ridha Anwar, in his closing remarks, stressed the importance of adaptive leadership, saying the ability to listen, learn and lead responsibly was key to navigating uncertainty.
