KUALA LUMPUR - As of 9am today, air quality in 11 areas across the country is at unhealthy levels, with Sarawak reporting the most affected areas.

According to data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, Samarahan registered the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading at 183, followed by Serian (182), Kuching (176), Sarikei and Sri Aman (158), while Mukah and Sibu each recorded readings of 152.

In Peninsular Malaysia, four areas posted unhealthy readings: Johan Setia (154) and Shah Alam (101) in Selangor, as well as Kuala Lumpur (131) and Putrajaya (104).

Meanwhile, 55 areas recorded moderate API readings of between 51 and 100, while two other areas registered good air quality below 50.

API readings from 0 to 50 indicate good air quality, 51-100 moderate, 101-200 unhealthy, 201-300 very unhealthy, and readings above 300 are classified as hazardous.

The API data is released hourly based on 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide. - BERNAMA
