THE Unity Government will remain firmly focused on preserving political stability, driving economic prosperity and safeguarding public welfare, Pakatan Harapan (PH) secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said, as coalition leaders reaffirmed support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and pledged continuity ahead of the next general election.
Saifuddin said the three priorities had formed the foundation of the Unity Government since its establishment and remained central to its governing philosophy after nearly three years in office.
“This government was formed on the basis of mutual trust and respect. These two political values — trust and respect — are why I admire Tok Min (Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun) for successfully retaining victory in Negeri Sembilan and governing effectively,” he said during the Pakatan Harapan leadership rally held in Negeri Sembilan last night.
Also present were Aminuddin, who is Negeri Sembilan PH chairman, Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke.
Saifuddin expressed confidence in the continuation of the current leadership despite less than two years remaining in the present parliamentary term.
“We place strong confidence in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. We want him to complete the remainder of this term, and if asked about PH’s direction, we want to work towards governing for a second term with Anwar leading as Prime Minister for a second term.
“Our direction is very clear, and it must begin with Negeri Sembilan. We will continue strengthening our position and Tok Min will continue to lead with distinction,” he said.
He added that the government would continue prioritising public welfare and maintaining economic policy continuity as Malaysia navigates mounting global challenges, including energy-related pressures.
“The world is currently facing a crisis, and whatever their objectives may be, the situation has led us into an energy crisis. We discuss this every week in the Economic Action Council meetings. There is no other way. We promised the people that we would defend public welfare and economic stability,” he said.
Meanwhile, DAP Secretary General Anthony Loke stressed that political consensus among parties within the Unity Government remained essential to preserving stability at both state and federal levels.
Referring to recent political developments in Negeri Sembilan, he said the situation had offered important lessons for political leaders, particularly the need to remain calm and act rationally during periods of uncertainty.
Anthony, who is also the Chennah state assemblyman, gave assurances that all 17 PH assemblymen in Negeri Sembilan remained united in supporting the current leadership and fulfilling the mandate entrusted to them by voters.
“We want the state to remain stable so that the country also remains stable. This is important to ensure that the Federal Government administration under Datuk Seri Anwar can continue,” he said.
He also urged elected representatives and party machinery to remain focused on their responsibilities, particularly in resolving issues affecting the people and ensuring the smooth functioning of government administration.
Aminuddin, meanwhile, said the state government would continue to prioritise sustainable development and economic stability for the wellbeing of the people, despite recent political tensions in Negeri Sembilan.
He said the state administration remained committed to protecting public welfare, with continued emphasis on education, economic resilience and attracting new investments.
“We want this state to continue progressing. We want this state to continue functioning well. We want children pursuing their education to continue being protected. The state government must take proactive steps to ensure the economy continues to grow and that the people are not burdened. Even today, there are companies coming to invest in this state.
“Today, we are not here to talk about politics, politics, politics. We want to talk about how we can win the hearts of the people by reducing their burdens. That is what we must do. Young people must ensure that peace and wellbeing continue so that we can move forward in a better way,” he said. - May 7, 2026
