While the cost of living has increased recently, most Malaysians have been looking at ways to cut costs when it comes to expenses related to food. Even so, economy rice, mixed rice, or zhap fan remain a popular lunch option for locals, but the prices may vary.

Thankfully, there’s good news for students studying at Universiti Malaya! The tertiary education institution has worked with their canteen operators to come up with rice set meals from RM3.50, which will reportedly be offered to students and staff starting today.

A notice from the Student Affairs department said the RM3.50 set would come with rice, eggs (telur dadar), and vegetables or ulam, while the RM5 set will have rice, chicken or fish, and vegetables or ulam. Students may also opt for additional sambal or soup.

These will be sold at all UM all residential college cafeterias.

The university says that it cares about its students’ well-being, which may have been affected by the recent increase in the cost of living.

Netizens who heard the news applauded UM for taking this initiative.
