[UPDATE] KKIA runway reopens after safety checks completed

Kota Kinabalu: The runway at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) reopened at 11.30pm on Thursday following the completion of final safety checks, according to Malaysia Airports' official Facebook page.

The runway had been temporarily closed earlier to allow essential works to be carried out safely following continuous rainfall.

Malaysia Airports said in an operational update on Thursday that the temporary closure disrupted 20 flights throughout the day.

The airport operator stressed that safety remained its highest priority, noting that flight operations would resume only once the runway was confirmed safe for use.

Malaysia Airports added that it was working closely with airlines to manage operational impacts and assist affected travellers.

Passengers travelling to and from KKIA are advised to check directly with their respective airlines for the latest flight status and updates.
