PENAMPANG: Chief Minister Hajiji welcomed the entry of the Upko into the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), saying the move would strengthen political stability and cooperation among the state’s local parties.
“When we received the application from Upko to join GRS, we saw that as a positive sign in Sabah’s political development and we accepted it with an open heart,” said Hajiji, who is also GRS chairman.
“The presence of Upko within this coalition of Sabah’s local parties will certainly strengthen political stability in Sabah, while consolidating cooperation among the parties within GRS,” he said.
He said Upko’s application was approved by the GRS Supreme Council on July 8.
He said political stability would allow the state government to focus on development, economic recovery and infrastructure progress in Sabah, and called on Upko’s leadership and members to work with the coalition’s other component parties.
Hajiji also congratulated Upko on its 32nd anniversary and officially launched the party’s 17th Triennial Delegates Conference, which begins today (Monday).
