Kota Kinabalu: Catholic priests, nuns, and sacred scripture should never be made into sexual jokes or mocked on the stage of a major national political assembly, said Tuaran Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau (pic).
The Upko leader said this following a speech by an Umno delegate at the Umno General Assembly 2026, which featured a story involving a priest and a nun, along with a reference to Psalm 129.
Reports indicated the anecdote was used by the speaker to illustrate the importance of remaining focused and knowing one's objectives.
Madius said that regardless of whether it was intended as humour or satire, the act was inappropriate as it offended the sensitivities of the Christian community nationwide.
He urged the speaker to acknowledge the error in judgement, withdraw the false reference to Psalm 129, and issue an unconditional public apology to Catholics and all Christians.
