SHAH ALAM – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has encouraged Malaysians to use TuJu, a locally developed navigation app, instead of Waze over data security concerns.
However, some users have reported performance issues with TuJu, including delays during navigation and difficulties searching for destinations.
Facebook user Chong Jia Wearn shared a screen recording comparing Waze and TuJu, which appeared to show TuJu responding more slowly. The recording offers a comparison of the two apps, although further testing would be needed to establish whether the difference reflects a consistent performance issue.
App Store reviewer shuhaimi25 also reported difficulties finding locations through TuJu's search function.
“It's hard to search place, sometimes the place didn't appear,” the reviewer wrote.
Waze, meanwhile, offers turn-by-turn navigation, alternative routes and real-time traffic information, according to its official help centre.
Another App Store reviewer, Nadia Gonzales, raised concerns about TuJu's traffic information, screen glitches and delays when returning to her current location.
“If you browse the map and wanna go back to the current point it moves so slowly. This is so annoying you could miss a turn because of the slowness,” the reviewer wrote.
TuJu also offers features for Malaysian motorists, including toll information, CCTV feeds and details about rest areas.
The reported issues raise questions about TuJu's performance, although the available user feedback does not establish how widespread the problems are or whether they persist in the app's latest version.
