Fermin Aldeguer is reportedly set to join VR46 for the 2027 MotoGP season, according to reports out of Spain. He’ll remain under the Ducati banner but will be moving into a bigger role within one of their satellite teams.

After a spell of uncertainty, VR46 are expected to renew their agreement with Ducati, and it’s believed that bringing in Aldeguer was a key factor in getting the deal over the line. The young rider is considered one of the top prospects in the sport.

Aldeguer was in contention to replace Francesco Bagnaia at Ducati before an offseason femur injury kept him out of pre-season testing and forced him to miss the season opener in Thailand. The 2025 Rookie of the Year makes his return this weekend in Brazil.

Fermin Aldeguer to make the move from Gresini to VR46

AS reports that Aldeguer will head to VR46 in 2027, joining an Italian teammate. Current riders Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Di Giannantonio are both competing to hold onto their spots, while Moto2’s Celestino Vietti, backed by Valentino Rossi, is also in the mix.

VR46 reportedly wants a blend of youth and experience in their line-up, and Aldeguer could fill the young rider role. With his move confirmed, Gresini will now have to rebuild their entire team.

Alex Marquez is set to join KTM – a move widely accepted as a done deal despite no official word yet. Meanwhile, Marc Marquez’s ongoing talks with Ducati seem to be slowing down the rest of the rider market.

Pablo Nieto’s response to Fermin Aldeguer’s speculation

Nieto, speaking to AS, spoke highly of Aldeguer but avoided giving any direct response to the growing rumours.

“Aldeguer is one of the two riders with the most potential in MotoGP, because of his characteristics, his talent, everything. In his first year, he already won a race, the Indonesian Grand Prix, and he has a very promising future”, he said.

AS reporter Mela Chercoles pointed out that Pedro Acosta was the other rider Nieto had in mind. VR46 made a move for Acosta ahead of 2027 before he decided to sign with Ducati instead.

But adding Aldeguer still gives them plenty to look forward to. The team could use a boost after falling behind Gresini in recent campaigns.
