A video showing a man hung upside down in a well at Sorkhi village in Hansi, Haryana, has gone viral. The victim, reportedly belonging to a Scheduled Caste community, was accused of stealing an electric motor.
The incident occurred on June 1. However, the police said since they had not received any complaint, no action had been initiated.
The video shows villagers tying up the man’s legs with ropes and lowering him into the well. He can be heard shouting for help, even as the villagers accuse him of stealing a motor and selling it to a scrap dealer.
Some villagers can also be seen hitting him with sticks and forcing him to confess to the theft. The victim is seen struggling before being pulled out.
