Personal enmity claimed another life in Jhajjar district as a 50-year-old disabled man was shot dead at his residence in Dighal village late on Tuesday night, marking the second murder in the district within the past three days.
The deceased, identified as Jitender, was allegedly gunned down by an assailant who fled the spot after executing the crime. The entire incident was captured on a CCTV camera, enabling the police to identify the suspects.
The police have launched an investigation after registering a case against Aman alias Banti and others on the complaint of the deceased’s brother, Sombir. However, no arrests had been made till the filing of this report.
In his complaint to the police, Sombir, the deceased’s brother, alleged that Aman, a cousin of Sahil alias Sonu, had recently threatened to avenge the killing of Sahil, who was shot dead in Dighal on April 8.
Sombir further stated that his son, Yogesh alias Yogi, is one of the accused in the Sahil murder case and is currently lodged in jail.
CCTV footage shows two youths walking through the street outside Jitender’s house at around 11:58 pm. Moments later, one of them, carrying a firearm, entered the house and opened fire on Jitender from close range while standing at the doorway. Jitender was asleep at the time of the attack and died on the spot.
“I was sleeping in another room when the incident took place. Hearing gunshots, I rushed outside and found Jitender lying in a pool of blood. We immediately informed the police,” Sombir told media persons at the Civil Hospital in Jhajjar on Wednesday.
Demanding the immediate arrest of the accused, he expressed concern over the family’s safety. “We are living in fear. If a person is not safe even inside his own home, where can he feel secure? The police must ensure our protection,” he added.
Jhajjar Commissioner of Police Rajshri Singh, DCP (Crime) Shubham Singh, and other senior police officials visited the crime scene soon after the incident.
The police have registered a case against two persons and are probing the murder from multiple angles. “Several teams have been formed to apprehend the accused, who have already been identified,” said ACP Shamsher Singh.
Earlier, on May 31, Vijay Kumar (65), a retired power corporation employee, was shot dead by bike-borne assailants in Dujana village due to an old enmity.
