The police have booked former SSP of Punjab Vigilance Bureau Hargobind Singh, his wife Harpreet Kaur and son Kuldeep Raj Singh in a dowry case.
In her complaint, Gurpreet Kaur, daughter-in-law of the retired SSP, accused her husband Kuldeep Raj Singh, mother-in-law and father-in-law of demanding dowry and beating her up.
In her statement to the police, Gurpreet said she had got married to Kuldeep Raj Singh, also a VB employee, in 2020. The couple was blessed with a son in 2021 and later a daughter. The complainant alleged that her in-laws had started harassing her since then and there were constant quarrels in the house. She alleged that despite giving dowry as per her ability at the time of marriage, she was asked to bring more money.
She alleged constant mental harassment and assault by her husband. Gurpreet stated that she had sustained injuries and was undergoing treatment at the Government Hospital in Phase 6, Mohali.
The Mataur police recorded the statement after receiving information from the hospital. A case was registered. The police have initiated an investigation into it.
