ESSCOM says viral claims of armed men entering Semporna and Lahad Datu are fake, assuring the public that security in East Sabah remains under control

KUALA LUMPUR: Claims of a group of armed men entering Semporna and Lahad Datu, Sabah that went viral on social media are fake, Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) commander Datuk Victor Sanjos said.

He also reassured that security in both areas was under control and the public need not be concerned about the claims.

“The viral claims are fake and we are aware of the photos uploaded on social media.

“Currently, the situation is under control and we are continuously monitoring to detect any threat or suspicious activity that can affect the safety of residents and the waters of East Sabah,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.

Victor said ESSCOM always monitors and implements security control, especially in waters and strategic locations in the East Sabah Security Zone, adding that any information about security threats should be channelled to the authorities for further action and confirmation.
