LAHAD DATU: The Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) has assured the public that the security situation in Semporna and Lahad Datu remains under control following social media claims alleging the arrival of an armed group.
Esscom commander DCP Datuk Victor Sanjos said security forces remain vigilant and continue to conduct surveillance and security operations across strategic locations in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone) to track any potential threats.
He urged the public to remain calm, refrain from sharing unverified security-related matters, and rely strictly on official sources such as the police and Esscom.
The response follows a viral Facebook post circulating since Friday that claimed armed men had arrived in both districts, alongside disturbing threats targeting school children in the State.
Esscom reiterated that individuals found deliberately spreading false information could face legal action under Malaysian law, while advising anyone with relevant information to channel it directly to the authorities.
