THE Royal Malaysia Police will step up security at tourist destinations across the country as part of routine operations in preparation for Visit Malaysia Year 2026, amid expectations of a sharp rise in domestic and international visitor numbers.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the deployment of additional personnel and stricter security controls at key locations, particularly popular tourist areas, was standard practice during major national events, festive seasons and peak travel periods.
“This has always been our routine. Whenever there are festive seasons, the New Year or major events, we will increase security measures.
“With Visit Malaysia Year, this is already part of our routine. There is no need to worry, Insya Allah,” he said.
Ayob Khan added that the police would continue to monitor the national security situation closely and respond immediately to any emerging threats or incidents.
“Security issues are constantly monitored. If action is required, we will take action,” he said.
His assurance comes as Malaysia intensifies preparations for Visit Malaysia Year 2026, a flagship tourism campaign aimed at boosting arrivals and reinforcing the country’s image as a safe and attractive destination.
The government has set a target of 43 million international tourist arrivals during the campaign year.
Ayob Khan was speaking to reporters after taking part in the Royal Malaysia Police Penang International Second Bridge Solidarity Fun Ride 2026 here on Saturday night.
The cycling event was officiated by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Penang, Tun Ramli Ngah Talib, and witnessed by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
Also in attendance were Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri and Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail. - January 4, 2025
